A downloadable game for Windows

Pizza Royale is my entry for Clickteam's PixelCRAM 2025. #MadeWithFusion

The Heat is On!

The fairest dairy in all the land, Princess Mozzarella, is hosting the ultimate pizza-eating tournament. The prize? Her world-renowned secret royal recipe!

Grab, gnash and gnaw your way to the top in a fighting feast for the ages! Six(?) fearsome foes stand between you and victory, each as delicious as they are deadly. From the enigmatic Nacho Friend -- the beast from the west who feasts with the best -- to the unbearably charming Garlic Head ("I'm gonna ciabatta you, innit?!"), each and every bout will leave you hungry for more.

A Feast of Features

Alongside its full-fat Arcade Mode, Pizza Royale also boasts:

  • Two distinct difficulty levels (you control the challenge);
  • Practice Mode -- perfect for hopping into matches with your favourite fast-food frenemies;
  • A handy-dandy Help screen stuffed to bursting with hints and tips;
  • A bespoke award system for in-game accomplishments (Pizzawards!); and perhaps even
  • A sinister secret lurking in the shadows...

Controls (Windows Ver.)

As well as the handheld source MFA for the PixelCRAM game jam, there's a Windows dot-exe version of the game for anyone who wants to play! Here are the controls:

Notes

I had some issues with saving with the Windows version, but hopefully it's all fixed now (and hopefully it works with the MFA version, too... Please let me know if there are any problems, Clickteam)!

As for the now-optional video part of the entry, I hope to get to that as soon as I've caught up on sleep. It'd be nice to go in-depth about the project and to send it off properly.

Finally, I want to thank my amazing friend Mitch R (n0dds), who made both the high-res artwork on the cover image and the sketches that the in-game pixel art was based on. And another huge thanks to SubspaceAudio at opengameart.org, whose songs and sounds made this project possible.

The Updated MFA

Thanks to the week-long extension, I managed to add a little bit to the game:

  • The Arcade Mode now saves high scores for both Thin Crust and Deep Pan difficulties.
  • The Deep Pan difficulty has been adjusted, presenting a tougher challenge.
  • There's now a slight gradient on the background layer to help foreground elements pop.

However: whilst testing the MFA, I ran into a game-breaking bug that I just couldn't track. Perhaps I mashed the wrong button at just the wrong moment, but I ended up with both myself and the opponent unable to pull and eat slices of pizza. In addition, the text in the cutscenes behaved erratically, sometimes turning into a string of speechmarks. Whilst I don't believe that the implementation of a score system would cause these problems (which worries me, since the bug may well be present in the original MFA), I can't recommend this version because of them. As such: the original MFA is still available, and the Windows version has not yet been updated.

That said, I thought I should still upload my work. You're more than welcome to open the file and have a look if you like. If you do manage to replicate the bug, please let me know what sort of steps you took. I have a feeling it's linked to the Fade In/Fade Out groups and the Player Control flag, as they caused issues with transitions before.

funny

It's very short, but the different gimmicks of each enemies are very refreshing! Although I don't really feel a clear difference between the two difficulties, it's nonetheless enjoyable!! Also the art is *chef's kiss*

Thank you so much for playing, and for the feedback!

I agree about the difficulties... I was worried about it being too hard for people, especially for a game-jam game (where you want to show everything off). But I'll make sure to crank up the difficulty in a later version!
